Heirloom Farm

One of the best ways to contribute to environmental conservation is to consume locally grown food. But we are many generations removed from being an agrarian society. As a result, the knowledge and practice of fruit and vegetable gardening is no longer part of our inheritance.

This is why Charlotte Zoological Park proposes to create an Heirloom Farm. It will be an actual replica of a pre-industrial American farm. Visitors will learn history as well as how to provide for themselves today and in the future.

Additionally, the farm will allow for close encounters with American heritage farming animals and it will also feature other family-friendly activities. It will also connect to an extensive network of hiking trails. Our goal is to create a practical, interactive diet and fitness educational program to benefit our community for generations.
